.edu is reserved for "regionally-accredited, degree-granting institutions of higher education that are accredited by one of the six U.S. regional accrediting agencies." Eligible entities may have only one domain under the .edu TLD.

.edu is administered by EDUCAUSE pursuant to an agreement with the Department of Congress. EDUCAUSE is a nonprofit association which advances the IT interests of the educational community.
